The DTM Protocol— Design and Implementation

چکیده
The evolution of fiber optics has made it possible to build high speed communication systems, gigabit (per second) networks. Gigabit networks have enough capacity to integrate traffic from several applications, such as video, audio and computer traffic, into one network. Techniques for gigabit networks, such as packet, cell and circuit switching, have been evaluated at different gigabit testbeds. The DTM project presents a protocol based on fast circuit switching as an inexpensive, scalable and efficient alternative to the above mentioned techniques. The DTM protocol suite is designed for integrated high speed communication. DTM provides a service where resources are reserved in advance, with guaranteed bandwidth and constant delay. The service given by the protocol is multicast which is argued to be important when integrating several services into one network. The capacity of the network may be reallocated between the nodes according to their demand. The DTM network uses a distributed switching approach to reduce the complexity of each switch. This thesis describes problems associated with high-speed networks, the considerations made when designing the DTM protocol suite and a description of a DTM network prototype.

Protocol Classes for Designing Reliable Distributed Environments
In this paper, we present Bast, an extensible library of protocol classes. The latter is aimed at helping system programmers to build distributed programming environments. Protocol classes constitute the basic structuring components for higher-level programming models, such as the transactional model, and add exibility to distributed environments. We focus on classes that implement a generic ag...
متن کاملHost Interfacing and Connection Management in the DTM Gigabit Network
The thesis is logically divided in two parts; one part discusses host interfacing to high-speed networks and the other focuses on connection establishment and resource reservation in DTM gigabit networks. An important problem posed by high-speed networks available today is the inability to provide the high bandwidth of the transmission media to an application. This thesis discusses how to avoid...
متن کاملThe DTM Host / Network Interface — Hardware Overview, Software Design and Protocol Layering
The DTM host/network adapter uses a dual-ported shared buffer memory on the interface board as in the Van Jacobson “Witless” interface [9]. The host operating system, SunOS, performs all protocol processing in the shared buffer memory and can therefore minimize the number of times data have to be transferred over the host system bus. We give an overview of the DTM host/network adapter hardware ...
متن کاملTransient Measurement Site Design in pipe networks using the Decision Table Method (DTM)
The accuracy of leak detection and calibration of pipe networks by means of the inverse transient analysis (ITA) is highly affected by the number and location of the measurement sites. This study introduces a conceptual decision-making model, the Decision Table Method (DTM), for the measurement site design of pipe networks with the aim of inverse transient analysis. Through the Decision Table M...
متن کاملDesign and Implementation of Field Programmable Gate Array Based Baseband Processor for Passive Radio Frequency Identification Tag (TECHNICAL NOTE)
In this paper, an Ultra High Frequency (UHF) base band processor for a passive tag is presented. It proposes a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag digital base band architecture which is compatible with the EPC C C2/ISO18000-6B protocol. Several design approaches such as clock gating technique, clock strobe design and clock management are used. In order to reduce the area Decimal Matrix C...
